EMDR
Reprocessing with Compassion & Care
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy approach that helps individuals process and release distressing memories, negative beliefs, and stuck emotional patterns. Rooted in neuroscience, EMDR gently activates the brain’s natural healing processes through bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or sound.
EMDR can be especially effective for individuals navigating:
-
PTSD and trauma-related experiences
-
Anxiety and panic responses
-
Childhood attachment wounds
-
Grief and life transitions
-
Limiting beliefs, self-worth, or shame patterns
Because EMDR can bring up deep emotional content, I offer the option to begin or end your session with grounding practices like:
-
Breathwork to regulate the nervous system
-
Meditation to bring clarity and presence
-
Sound healing to integrate what surfaces and create a calm inner landscape
These tools are always optional and guided with sensitivity to your comfort and readiness. They can be especially helpful in setting the tone for the session or creating a gentle space to close after intense processing.
Why EMDR?
EMDR is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a frontline treatment for trauma and PTSD.
Research shows:
-
84–90% of single-trauma survivors no longer met PTSD criteria after just 3–6 EMDR sessions (Shapiro, 1989; Wilson et al., 1995).
-
EMDR has been found to be as effective—or more effective—than cognitive behavioral therapy, often in fewer sessions (van der Kolk et al., 2007).
-
EMDR also shows significant improvements in anxiety, depression, and somatic symptoms, especially when trauma is a root cause.
Session Format & Recommendations
While EMDR can be conducted in standard 50-minute sessions, I often recommend exploring 90–120 minute sessions for maximum benefit.
This allows time to:
-
Ground and attune before starting reprocessing
-
Move through the phases of EMDR more fully
-
Integrate insights without feeling rushed
This extended time frame can offer a more intentional and expansive healing experience, especially when paired with somatic tools. To note, insurance only covers 60 minute sessions for EMDR, so to explore longer session, please inquire about private sessions.
You Deserve Healing at Your Own Pace
If you’re curious about EMDR or wondering whether this approach may be supportive for your healing journey, I’m happy to explore it with you in a grounded, compassionate way. Together, we can co-create a path toward relief, resilience, and reconnection with your most whole self. I truly believe if we can love ourselves and the world from an intention of wholeheartedness, we will embody coming home and helping our bodies find deeper connection, cellular repair and healing.
